The group, who are all currently studying a PhD in Japan, flew in as part of a wider visit to the UK, for a full day to experience the facilities and expertise Myerscough has to offer.

They were invited to the farm thanks to the connections of Dr Hamad Saeed, Higher Education Lecturer and Researcher in Agriculture at Myerscough, who was delighted to be able to facilitate the visit.

The group initially undertook a tour of Lodge Farm, led by Myerscough Farm Manager, Patrick Armitage.

The participants were shown the dairy unit, the calf rearing unit, and what technology is being used currently to manage these units. A lot of discussion took place around the management aspect of the farm.

They were also briefed and demonstrated what software is being used to manage the arable side of the farm operations.

Simon Oakley from the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology then delivered a presentation on net zero with reference to the willow/miscanthus project that Myerscough is currently part of, along with a general discussion on the topics covered.

We hope our guests had a fantastic day and were able to gain a good insight into some of the cutting-edge technologies used within Myerscough’s farming operations.
