The student built BMW 116 was put to the ultimate test with lecturer Simon Moss taking the wheel.

Following a successful track day at Snetterton in September, students from all years of the motorsport degree programme were hard at work in the workshop last week completing the final touches for the event.

The race weekend showcased industry standards, with a group of Competition Car Technology students handling mechanical preparation and two Management and Logistics students overseeing team operations.

The BMW 116 remains an asset to Myerscough’s motorsport vision, serving as an ongoing project that develops student understanding of how to transform a standard vehicle into a competition ready car. This weekend showcased the University Centre’s commitment to learning beyond the classroom through industry relevant environments.

Lecturer Simon Moss said: ‘’I have my colleague Marcos to thank for managing the car’s preparation, but huge thanks go to the students Abi, Adam, Chris, Harrison, Isaac, James have been crucial in undertaking the work on the car, while Holly and Liv have been working on planning and co-ordinating.’’

Thanks to successful pit stops, competitive times and a strong team effort, the team secured 29th place, the best result for the 116.

All eight degree-level Motorsport students performed to high standards throughout the event, with two Management and Logistics students taking on media and team communications, whilst six Competition Car Technology students executed data, car preparation and pitlane operations.

Simon added: “The team worked brilliantly together and for many of them it was their first competitive event. I'm not the fastest driver, however I knew I could put my trust in these dedicated students.

‘’My thanks and congratulations go to all of those involved for their hard work and commitment.”
